Abstract
RUETTI, ELIANA; MUSTACA, ALBA and BENTOSELA, MARIANA. EMOTIONAL MEMORY: EFFECTS OF CORTICOSTERONE ON AVERSIVE MEMORIES. rev.latinoam.psicol. [online]. 2008, vol.40, n.3, pp.461-474. ISSN 0120-0534.
The adrenal hormones administered immediately before or after a learning task modulate memory. This effect varies according to time and intensity with which hormones increase. The release or administration of glucocorticoids 0before or after a task, facilitate memory. Althought, the elevation of glucocorticoids before a test of learning deteriorates evocation of information previously learned. This paper presents a review of the animal and human´ studies on the role of glucocorticoids on the memory of aversive events. Also, this paper presents a description about the effect of acute and chronic elevation of adrenal hormones on memory.
