Abstract

GIRALDO, Yicel Nayrobis  and  ALVAREZ ZAPATA, Didier. Proposal for an Observatory of Reading Promotion in Colombia. Rev. Interam. Bibliot [online]. 2009, vol.32, n.2, pp.287-309. ISSN 0120-0976.

The paper presents de idea and the phases of the creation of an observatory of reading promotion in Colombia, conceived as an organism that combines multiple strategies for the permanent diffusion of information on the analysis, monitoring, and impact evaluation of practices and representations of reading promotion in social and cultural life. Particularly, it considers the observatory of reading promotion as an scene for reflection, action and collective construction of knowledge on reading promotion and civil life promotion; also, as an instrument for the generation, gathering and diffusion of information on reading promotion (iniciatives), the libraries, and the book (its channels of production and traffic). This project would facilitate the processes of following up, evaluation and monitoring of reading promotion at a national an regional level. In order to do this, the paper deals with the social need for the observatory, its causes and social effects, mentions some important precedents in the world and in Colombia, and proposes a methodological guideline for its design.
