Abstract

MENESES PLACERES, Grizly  and  FRIAS GUZMAN, Maylín. Information literacy in curricular processes of Information Sciences in Cuba. Rev. Interam. Bibliot [online]. 2011, vol.34, n.1, pp.9-22. ISSN 0120-0976.

The article describes the evolution of the curricular design of Information Sciences in Cuba and particularly examines the presence of Information Literacy postulates in this evolution. In a special part, it characterizes the way in which Information Literacy is incorporated in the ''D'' Curriculum of Information Sciences in the Universidad Central de Las Villas ''Marta Abreu''. The work used different methods: the historical-logic for the construction of a theoretical frame which shows the particularities of the Information Literacy process and the current status of the problems; the Inductive-deductive, to carry out the analysis and inference of the obtained data; the classic documental analysis for the gathering of the basic document sources; and the contents analysis to identify the categories and analysis units associated to Information Literacy and its presence in the diverse disciplines and courses of the revised studies plans. It concludes that the curricular design of the Information Sciences specialty was planned in Cuba according to the institutional transformation in the disciplinary and intellectual field, and associated to the particular context.
