Abstract is set as the tool through which extracts the appropriate text message to ensure the transmission of scientific content. It is a complex analysis technique is highly valued by the user. The objectives of this study are to analyze the different meanings of the term abstract from different researchers, research different scientific claims about their quality and type, and highlight its importance as a process that shapes the content analysis. It makes a definition of the term according to current needs and proposes a relevant typology, as well as proposing improvements to strengthen its quality parameters, to ensure the training of documentary, and thus, the information needs of users.
