Abstract
PICASSO ESCOBAR, Gino; SUN KOU, María del Rosario; LAGOS ARAUJO, Lesly and ROJAS BARRETO, Johny. Preparation and application of sensors based on a-Fe2O3 nanoparticles for detection of propane. Rev. ion [online]. 2012, vol.25, n.1, pp.35-41. ISSN 0120-100X.
There have been prepared some sensors based on iron oxide nanoparticles (-Fe2O3) doped with Pd (with nominal metallic loading of 0.25 to 1.5w%). The characterization of samples was performed by XRD, TEM and adsorption of N2. The XRD patterns showed the majority presence of -hematite phase in all sensors. The starting iron oxide crystalline structure has not been affected by the introduction of Pd as doping material. TEM micrographs showed the average particle size of samples ranging from 30 to 70 nm. The sensibility has been evaluated in a range of propane concentrations from 20 to 80 ppm and temperatures between 242 and 377°C. The increasing trend of sensibility has been observed in higher concentrations of propane. The sensor doped with 0.5w% Pd presented the highest sensibility which was attributed to the formation of -hematite phase, the synergistic effect of Pd, the large specific surface and a suitable size of the nanoparticles.
