Abstract
BOLANOS CUELLAR, Sergio. LINGUISTIC SEXISM: AN APPROACH TO A COMPLEX PROBLEM OF CONTEMPORARY LINGUISTICS. Forma funcion, Santaf, de Bogot, D.C. [online]. 2013, vol.26, n.1, pp.89-110. ISSN 0120-338X.
Abstract This paper aims at presenting a theoretical and critical contemporary linguistic approach to the topic of linguistic sexism in Spanish. The premise holds that women have been discriminated against in several fields of contemporary society. Also the thesis maintains that social factors are reflected on language changes and it is not language itself that produces them. A definition of linguistic sexism is proposed and some Spanish linguistic resources, especially generic masculine forms and duplication, are discussed. Finally, some conclusions are drawn.
