Abstract
CABRALES VARGAS, Myriam. Developing communicative competence through e-mail exchange. Leng. [online]. 2011, vol.39, n.2, pp.419-445. ISSN 0120-3479.
Based on the concept of communicative competence proposed by Hymes (1973, en C. Bachmann, J. Lindenfeld & J. Simonin, 1991) and later developed by different authors, the investigation object of this article describes how a group of students, by means of email correspondence with speakers of French, forges and maintains an interchange that enables them to develop their communicative competence. By using the ethnomethodological approach, specified in conversational analysis, it can be established that out of three subcompetences defined for the study: linguistic, socio-cultural and discourse, the latter is the most widely developed, followed by socio-cultural and, as surprising as it may seem, linguistic competence takes a third place
Keywords : communicative competence; linguistic competence; discourse competence; socio-cultural competence; electronic interaction; e-mail.
