Abstract

There are important manifestations of iron oxides, in the Paipa area ( ), by means of residual concentrations on the land. Samples of outcrop were analyzed with the purpose of identifying the present minerals and their origin. The metallographic results allowed establishing a mineralogical association of: Goethite, hematite and lepidocrocite, whose deposit is related with the volcanic activity that affected the area at the end of the Neogene. Due to the hydrothermal activity the iron was caught in form of oxides that area characterized by coloiformes textures and hydroxides with textures of replacement in stagnated waters environments.
