Abstract

RAMIREZ-OROZCO, Juan Guillermo. STEM Experience: Development of Mathematical Thinking through Meteorological Video Games. Rev. colomb. educ. [online]. 2022, n.85, pp.241-241.  Epub Nov 28, 2022. ISSN 0120-3916.  https://doi.org/10.17227/rce.num85-12756.

Meteorology is a cross-sectional science that enables children to develop mathematical thoughts as they enable the recognition of numerical data, the identification of spaces, the use of shapes, the variation of variables and the randomness of nature. Climate change requires strong mathematical training to help respond to the challenges posed by the variation of physical phenomena. This study seeks to quaitatively evaluate the role of two video games with a meteorological background in terms of the development of mathematical competencies that allow the solution of the problems presented by climate change and in turn becomes a STEM exercise that provides elements of science, technology, engineering and mathematics necessary to solve real problems and that are simulated in video games.

Keywords : meteorology; mathematical thinking; climate change; video game; challenge.
