Abstract

AYALA, María Mercedes; GARZON, Marina  and  MALAGON, Francisco. CONSIDERACIONES SOBRE LA FORMALIZACIÓN Y MATEMATIZACIÓN DE LOS FENOMENOS FÍSICOS* †. Prax. filos. [online]. 2007, n.25, pp.39-54. ISSN 0120-4688.

Formalization can be considered as a natural process of thinking or any cognitive process, if it is taking in account that common usage is itself a formalization process. But, what is formalization in the physics' frame? Is there a basic difference with natural processes of formalization? Is formalization analogous to mathematisation? what is the difference? In order to provide a more suitable base to answer these questions, four different ways of formalization are characterized: 1) formalization of pragmatic type, 2) application of mathematics, 3) axiomatization of physical theories and unification of phenomenic fields, and 4) mathematisation of a phenomenic field.

Keywords : mathematisation; formalization; axiomatization; Galileo; Lagrange's; analytical mechanics; Maxwell's electromagnetism; Dirac's quantum mechanics.
