Abstract

FALQUET, Jules. Latin American and Caribbean 'Autonomous Feminists': Twenty Years of Dissidence. univ.humanist. [online]. 2014, n.78, pp.39-63. ISSN 0120-4807.

I present in the article an interpretation, among other possible ones, of twenty years of history of the "autonomous" trend of Latin American and Caribbean feminism. Based on my participation in various groups and events as well as in their publications, I try to make visible this little known and often demonized counterhegemonic thought. It will be seen that Latin American and Caribbean autonomous women, in their diversity, have made decisive contributions to feminism and transnational lesbianism from the South. They propose, among other ideas, a very strong critique of the concept of gender and the model of neoliberal "development" imposed by the international cooperation; new lights on the interweaving of the social relations of gender, class and "race"; and they are pioneers in the decolonial thinking. I also tackle the conditions for making possible the development of this "radical" thought: collective production of reflection, linkage to political practice in various social movements and personal social position of the female activists-theoriticians.

Keywords : autonomy; feminism; lesbianism; globalization; interweaving; Latin America.
