Abstract

RUIZ, Julio Juan. POLITICAL PERSUASION AND RELIGIOUS INDOCTRINATION IN THE THEATER OF PEDRO CALDERÓN DE LA BARCA. Linguist.lit. [online]. 2013, n.63, pp.35-47. ISSN 0120-5587.

Baroque theater fulfilled an important political function. It was not only limited to the mere representation of power on stage, but it was also devoted to legitimate it and to convince the subjects about the purposes of the State. This function was carried out by a thorough labor of ideological persuasion and religious indoctrination. The presence of both aspects in two plays by Calderón is analyzed. The results of this study allow to understand the relationship between politics and mass media in current times.

Keywords : Calderón; Spain; power; theater.
