Abstract

GUTIERREZ GUZMAN, Nelson; SERRA BELENGUER, Juan Antonio  and  MARIN, Gonzalo Clemente. Identifying critical factors for implementing good agricultural practice. Ing. Investig. [online]. 2009, vol.29, n.3, pp.109-114. ISSN 0120-5609.

This paper deals with identifying the critical factors (CFs) involved in implementing a good agricultural practice (GAP) programme for coffee and fruit farmers in the Huila department of Colombia. An exploratory factor analysis using principal component analysis (PCA) factorisation was used. Data matrixes were constructed from the results of applying two definedstructure assessment tools to the populations being studied: Starbucks' coffee and farmer equity (CAFE) practices for smallscale coffee growers and coffee-producers and the EUREPGAP V2.1 Oct.2004 / checklist for fruit and vegetables, as applied to fruit-producers. This investigation led to identifying 6 CFs which must be considered when implementing a GAP programme: infrastructure, established production activities, preparing and maintaining records, environmental awareness, workers' welfare and safety and quality control.

Keywords : critical factor (CF); good agricultural practice (GAP); principal component analysis (PCA).
