Abstract

CUENCA JIMENEZ, Noel José  and  CHAVARRO MIRANDA, Fernando. Quality of life and social public spending in Colombia: analysis by departments, 1993-2000. Semest. Econ. [online]. 2010, vol.13, n.26, pp.57-79. ISSN 0120-6346.

This article shows the existent relation between social public expenditure by Colombian Departments and quality of life. It parts from the assumption that there is a significant relation between quality of life and social public expenditure. Initially using a graphic and simple index development analysis and afterwards exploring a simple data panel model for the 1993-2000 period. The relevancy of the fixed and random effects is determined, finding an important influence in the random effects in the panel analysis. As an outstanding aspect it is found that there is no significant relation between quality of life and the social public expenditure per Departments what can be associated with the multiple problems in the public goods assignation.

Keywords : Public expenditure; public economics; quality of life; human development; regional economics.
