Abstract

FIORAVANTE, Karina Eugenia. We're Invisible: About Female Prison Space and Gender. Cuad. Geogr. Rev. Colomb. Geogr. [online]. 2012, vol.21, n.1, pp.55-64. ISSN 0121-215X.

The article sets forth various considerations regarding female prison environments from the perspective of feminist geographies, particularly concerning to the concept of gender. The text is divided into two sections. First one includes some theoretical reflections which guided the discussion towards female prison spatiality, in order to highlight the fact that the latter is dynamically constituted and is constantly under construction. The second section discusses the everyday life of women imprisoned in the city of Ponta Grossa, Paraná, Brazil, in order to show how that spatiality is permeated and traversed by clear power relations.

Keywords : space; prison environment; gender; Minipresidio Hildebrando de Souza; women.
