ENRIQUEZ, Oscar; GUZMAN, Anderson and NARVAEZ, Germán. Analysis of Precipitation Behavior in the Municipality of Buenaventura (Valle del Cauca, Colombia) in the Context of the El Niño/La Niña Phenomenon. Cuad. Geogr. Rev. Colomb. Geogr. Abstract The El Niño/La Niña phenomenon has caused many alterations in climate variables, especially, precipitation. The article discusses the variations caused by that phenomenon in the general rainfall patterns in the municipality of Buenaventura (Valle del Cauca, Colombia). First, it carries out a statistical analysis of different historic precipitation series and correlates them to oceanic and atmospheric indices, and then calculates anomalies and specifically characterizes some of the main events. This made it possible to conclude that rainfall behavior in said municipality shows the opposite tendency to that normally expected during El Niño or La Niña episodes in the Colombian Pacific region.
