Abstract

RAUSCH, Gisela Ariana; MARTINEZ, Irene; NARDELLI, Mariana Lis  and  SZUPIANY, Estefanía. Concentration/Dispersion in Santa Fe, Argentina: Issues and Questions regarding Contemporary Urban Processes in a Mid-Sized City in Latin America. Cuad. Geogr. Rev. Colomb. Geogr. [online]. 2019, vol.28, n.1, pp.66-88. ISSN 0121-215X.  https://doi.org/10.15446/rcdg.v28n1.68757.

The article discusses contemporary territorial issues having to do with urban concentration and dispersion in Santa Fe, Argentina. One argues that such problems evince neoliberal strategies of spatial commodification, resulting partly from a global logic and from characteristics common to Latin American cities. The study seeks to account for the way in which global neoliberal logics are materialized in local contexts, particularly in a mid-sized city. Research results show specificities of spatial production processes of contemporary capitalism, expressed in the increase of socioeconomic marginalization, the formation of urban enclaves, dispersed urbanization along major highways, and verticalization processes.

Keywords : city of Santa Fe; urban expansion; neoliberalism; urbanization.
