For the School of Dentistry it is highly important to publish the results of its research activity, clearly complying with ethical responsibilities, with the intention of submitting its academic production for validation by the scientific community in different disciplines. Therefore, Revista Facultad de Odontología Universidad de Antioquia stands as an ideal organ for knowledge divulgation.

Besides offering its printed version, our Revista allows free access to its entire contents in its website, enabling professors, students, and dental professionals to access this publication from remote places in the local, national and international scenes, thus ensuring its visibility as it is frequently consulted because of the high quality of the articles it publishes, and contributing to generation of new knowledge (both basic and clinical), as well as to the education of general and specialized dentists, and to the constant updating of the profession's diverse areas of development.

For editors and authors alike, the electronic version represents the challenge of choosing the right structure and design in order to achieve the goals of the publication and to deliver a product in line with the advances of information and communication technologies (ICT), both in English and Spanish.

The current issue proves once again the effort and commitment of the professors to consolidate the position achieved by our Revista as a publication of the highest quality, since it approaches several fields of the current dental activity that are of relevance for scientific research, by means of original articles derived from research, literature reviews, and clinical case reports on such diverse fields as periodontics, orthodontics, biomaterials, dental caries, prosthodontics, esthetic dentistry, pathology, radiology, anthropology, microbiology, biochemistry, and oral health education.
