Abstract

This paper-presents the current reasons for getting involved in the math class of an eleventh-grade student who states that she has never liked math classes in her previous years. For this reason, it is developed a contextualization e of the student, analyzing and reporting what happened with the math class and her stance when this person is invited to develop a mathematical modeling environment from the socio-critical perspective. This document is part of the results obtained in the master's thesis, which adopts a critical research methodology and an analysis of the discourses of the students who were involved in the created environment. The results found that students have a variety of reasons for getting involved in the math class, in which future, context and intentions of the students are important.
