Abstract

MASSAL, Julie. EMOTIONS AND SOCIAL MOBILIZATION: QUESTION INGTHE RATIONALIST PARADIGM. anal.polit. [online]. 2015, vol.28, n.85, pp.93-111. ISSN 0121-4705.  https://doi.org/10.15446/anpol.v28n85.56249.

We propose an evaluation of the role that emotions are playing in social mobilization, a focus that has been developed during the last decade in EEUU, which is related with a strong criticism against the rationalist and structural paradigm. We emphasized specifically two main debates: on the one hand, the role of emotions in the protest cycles (the succession of mobilizing and demobilizing phases); on the other hand the strategic using of emotions in the recruiting process. We also approach, through the Colombian case, the debate on high risk mobilization and its emotional dimension: it has appeared very recently in the country, thus we propose some research ways to explore.

Keywords : Emotions; protest cycle; recruiting; high risk mobilizations; Colombia.
