Abstract

VARGAS MANRIQUE, Carlos Eduardo. CULTIVOS ILÍCITOS Y ERRADICACIÓN FORZOSA EN COLOMBIA . Cuad. Econ. [online]. 2004, vol.23, n.41, pp.109-141. ISSN 0121-4772.

Colombia is the sole country in the Andean region employing fumigation for hampering the rhythm of illicit crops' growth. This article explores cultivators' behaviour regarding a random fumigation event, using optimum control tools for maximising their benefits and incorporating the probability of eradication into such analysis. We show that eradication could generate unforeseen effects regarding crop dynamics, tending to reduce harvesting rhythm and accelerate the growth of the area being cultivated.

Keywords : illegal behaviour; illicit crops; optimisation techniques; eradication.
