Abstract

MARIN-IDARRAGA, Diego Armando. UNDERSTANDING EXPLOITATION AND EXPLORATION IN ORGANIZATIONAL LEARNING: A THEORETICAL DEFINITION. Innovar [online]. 2017, vol.27, n.63, pp.77-90. ISSN 0121-5051.  https://doi.org/10.15446/innovar.v26n63.60668.

In the 90's, exploitation and exploration construct appears in organizational learning as a way of explaining adaptation processes within organizations. In spite of the extensive research attention this theoretical contribution has received by different fields, it is still unclear how both competences are understood, whether in a complementary or an excluding way. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to theoretically define the research currents that have dealt with exploitation and exploration by means of a systematic literature review. As a result, this work provides an analytical perspective of the main characteristics of exploitation and exploration as substituting and complementary, so that it constitutes a starting point to support future studies in this field.

Keywords : Exploitation; exploration; ambidexterity; organizational learning.
