Abstract

PATRIAU, Enrique. Populism in Campaign!: Televised Discourses in Presidential Candidates of the Andean Region (2005-2006). colomb.int. [online]. 2012, n.76, pp.293-325. ISSN 0121-5612.

Populism, a characteristic of politics in Latin America, is explained and studied through diverse perspectives. One of these perspectives consists of understanding populism as a type of political speech. In this regard, this work proposes a typology of populist speech and a methodology for its analysis. In particular, this typology will be applied to the televised publicity which diverse Andean leaders incorporated as part of their respective presidential campaigns presented between the years 2005 and 2006 in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela.

Keywords : Populism; political speech; advertising campaigns.
