Abstract

CASTANO TORRES, Stefani; ACEVEDO VALENCIA, Jenny Marcela  and  LONDONO MARTINEZ, Mónica. Freedom and Equality Frames: Experiences of Ex-combatants Women from FARC-EP. colomb.int. [online]. 2020, n.104, pp.157-182. ISSN 0121-5612.  https://doi.org/10.7440/colombiaint104.2020.06.

Objective/Context:

This article analyzes the freedom and equality experiences of women ex-combatants from Colombia Revolutionary Armed Forces -FARC-EP-, the tensions and contradictions associated with their autonomy and their decisions.

Methodology:

Qualitative study by applying semi-structured interviews and interactive techniques.

Conclusions:

The article supports feminist theories that have vindicated the principles of freedom and equality as pillars of citizenship and democracy. The results analyzed women’s decision and/or impositions before, during their membership in the armed group, and in the reincorporation process. Their life experiences reveal different responses to domination such as resistance, naturalization of hierarchical orders, and subversion.

Originality:

The article contributes to the analysis of these concepts from real life experiences and offers possible inroads for these women to advance on their agency, autonomy, and the transgression of domination orders.

Keywords : Feminism; freedom; equality; excombatant women; armed conflict.
