Abstract

CONNELL, Raewyn. Gender, health and theory: conceptualizing the issue in a global and local perspective.Translated byJosé Fernando Serrano. Nómadas [online]. 2013, n.39, pp.63-77. ISSN 0121-7550.

It proposes a relational approach to the gender's corporal experience and its connection to health, related to the violent history of colonialism, the structural violence of globalization and the creation of gendered institutions on a global scale. gender is seen as an active social process which brings reproductive bodies to the history, producing repercussions on health, not as a collateral effect, but placed right in the middle of its creation. The paper also proposes to overcome categorical thinking in the discussion of current processes affecting health.

Keywords : gender; public policy; health care; globalization; relational theory.
