SANCHEZ-ACOSTA, Helmer Enrique; OLIVELLA-FERNANDEZ, Madeleine Cecilia and NUNEZ-RODRIGUEZ, Martha Lucia. Currently, climatic risks and scientific and technical progress demand relevant responses from the professions. In the case of nursing, training in the area of emergencies and disasters is an essential aspect that should be linked to the consolidation of the comprehensive training of nursing professionals. This fundamental area is sometimes not explicit in the curricula, which can restrict the performance of the professional role and hide the contribution of the profession in this field.
Objective:
To assess the coherence and relevance of Nursing training in the area of emergencies and disasters from an analysis of the micro curriculums of four Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Colombia and their relationship with guidelines in the training of nurses at the international and national level.
Methodology:
Mixed study (qualitative-quantitative) of hermeneutic and descriptive design where the characterization and analysis of micro curriculums in their textual content was carried out, supported by four study categories and training parameters by national and international academic competences. The units of analysis were four micro curriculums taken by convenience sampling.
Results:
Low research production, dilution of its training in the study plans, ignorance of international guidelines, non-existence of national guidelines and the worrying situation facing the development of health education in emergencies and disasters are evident.
Conclusions:
There are gaps in the consolidation of the positioning of health education in risk management in emergencies and disasters in Colombia due to the absence of clear basic competences standards.
