Abstract

MELAMED VISBAL, Janiel David. Israel's geopolitical interests in the Syrian armed conflict. Rev. Derecho [online]. 2019, n.51, pp.210-230.  Epub Mar 14, 2020. ISSN 0121-8697.  https://doi.org/10.14482/dere.51.327.1.

This article analyzes the armed conflict in Syria and its main consequences for Israel, especially, its geopolitical interests and strategic objectives. Israel has a sui generis role in the war because it is not one of the main armed actors, but neither is a passive spectator.

The article presents a geopolitical characterization of Syria and its historical conflictive relations with Israel. Additionally, it analyses some of the military interventions that Israel has conducted in Syria, identifying the evident existence of trigger elements of its military actions. The level of military intervention obeys to rational and strategic considerations, which are not necessarily related to the fall of the Syrian regimen.

Keywords : Syria; Israel; Iran; geopolitics; armed conflict..
