Abstract

DRAKE-TAPIA, Beatriz. Research about Community Cultural Development in Cuba: Contributions and Challenges. Prospectiva [online]. 2022, n.34, pp.153-176.  Epub July 01, 2022. ISSN 0122-1213.  https://doi.org/10.25100/prts.v0i34.11565.

Research on community cultural development has a long tradition in Cuba, both in promoting and accompanying community experiences of transformation and in the epistemological understanding of social and cultural processes, especially local ones. This article aims to systematize the main conceptual and methodological supports of research on community cultural development in Cuba, based on the scientific production of the period 2010 - 2020. A qualitative and Grounded Theory perspective has been adopted in the bibliographic and documentary analysis, and qualitative content analysis. An overview of these studies is presented, and it is based on some institutions and academic programs that have promoted it. Theoretical and methodological assumptions are identified for the analysis of the management of community cultural development. Furthermore, principal contributions and challenges of research on the subject in the country are highlighted.

A conception of community cultural development is constructed through the vision of various authors, disciplines and theoretical-methodological perspectives and in articulation with local identities, community participation and change processes that take place in the territories.

The systematization of the wide diversity of research about particular experiences; the overcoming of academic and elitist visions in the management and research of community cultural development, and the deepening of the analysis of its structural dimension, constitute some of the fundamental challenges of research on the subject in Cuba.
