Abstract
LAGUARDA, Paula Inés. Socialism in the Capital of the National Territory of La Pampa, Argentina (1913- 1929): Municipalization of Services, Urban Hygiene and Consumption. Anu.hist.reg.front. [online]. 2022, vol.27, n.2, pp.157-186. Epub Dec 01, 2022. ISSN 0122-2066. https://doi.org/10.18273/revanu.v27n2-2022007.
This article analyzes the proposals promoted by the socialists in the Municipal Council of Santa Rosa, capital of the National Territory of La Pampa (Argentina), between 1913 and 1929, in order to modernize the city. The main lines of action were the municipalization of public services, urban hygiene and lowering the price of consumption, in line with other experiences of municipal socialism. However, the case of Santa Rosa was characterized by a high degree of state interventionism, to the detriment of the promotion of cooperative initiatives, at least in the period analyzed. The work addresses the support and resistance to the socialist city project, through the analysis of various sources, such as the press and photographs of the time, the minutes of the Municipal Council and national legislation. At the same time, it examines the tensions between political ideas and practices, as well as their relationship with other local spaces and with the national and international context.
