Abstract

The topic of modernity, as a desirable object of development but also as elements of science and technology which will allow to achieve modernity, are common to hispanic-american thought. It is considered by Spain as a lost place in between powers, decadence. For Latin America, it is an ever unattainable aspiration. In this essay, a brief tour of the Latin American thought and its schools will be made around the topic of modernity and development, the relations between the European as other and identity. Also through a text of José Gaos, about dissidence as an alternative to the decadence that is more in line with the post-occidental Latino American school.
