Abstract

MORAN RAMOS, LUIS DANIEL  and  CARCELEN RELUZ, CARLOS GUILLERMO. Battles for political legitimacy. Peru of the liberator José de San Martín and the political speeches in conflict in South America. Hist. Caribe [online]. 2022, vol.17, n.41, pp.77-113.  Epub Dec 10, 2022. ISSN 0122-8803.  https://doi.org/10.15648/hc.41.2022.3371.

In the context of the bicentennial of independence in Latin America, the study of political and cultural history has meant an important historiographical renewal. In this perspective, the analysis of the political discourses in the press of Lima, Buenos Aires and Santiago de Chile shows a complex conflict of interest for political legitimacy in that revolutionary situation, which highlights the various ways and dissimilar motivations that social actors had to face in the military struggle scenario and the war for the public opinion. In this sense, this research develops those divergent political discourses that became a continental scale propaganda war with epicenters in these capitals at the time of the protectorate of General José de San Martín in Peru.

Keywords : Independence; press; conflicting political speeches; battles for legitimacy; José de San Martín; South America.
