Abstract

VERBAL STOCKMEYER, VALENTINA. The restoration of order. Civilians and military in the O'Higgins uprising of 1826. Hist. Caribe [online]. 2022, vol.17, n.41, pp.115-148.  Epub Dec 13, 2022. ISSN 0122-8803.  https://doi.org/10.15648/hc.41.2022.3372.

This article studies an important civil-military insubordination undertaken by the O'Higginis faction, which was in favor of Bernardo O'Higgins' return to power, during the period of organization in the republic of Chile (1823-1830). Unlike some of the authors referred to in these pages, this article reveals the existence and nature of militarism in the early years of the Chilean republic.

Keywords : Uprising of 1826; political stability; militarism; Bernardo O'Higgins.
