Abstract
RONDON-QUINTANA, Hugo Alexander and MORENO-ANSELMI, Luis Ángel. Influence of Water on Asphalt Mixture Stripping: A Study on Asphalt Binders. Ing. Univ. [online]. 2010, vol.14, n.2, pp.297-312. ISSN 0123-2126.
A mayor distress on asphalt mixtures occur due to the physical separation of asphalt cement and the aggregate produced by adhesion failure. This phenomenon is called stripping. The causes that produce stripping are not yet fully understood. This paper describes the influence of asphalt cement on stripping which is due only to water effect. Indirect strength tensile tests were performed on two hot asphalt mixtures with two different asphalt cements (AC 80-100 and AC 60-70). There is a change of consistency in asphalt cement when it is saturated with water, and this change affects asphalt cement-granular aggregate connection.
