Abstract

AGUDELO BETANCUR, Juan Alberto  and  MONTOYA G, Jhon Williams. Urban and regional policies and the construction of the metropolitan space of Medellín. Perspectiva Geográfica [online]. 2014, vol.19, n.1, pp.29-60.  Epub June 01, 2024. ISSN 0123-3769.

Medellín and its surrounding area is the zone in Colombia that best exhibits the characteristics of a rapid process of metropolization, both functional and political. This paper examines the metropolitan reality through two strategies: first, an examination of urban and regional policies that have driven and sustained growth of the metropolitan city of Medellín in the Aburrá and San Nicolas valleys; and secondly, through the implementation of some geostatistical techniques to map which areas correspond functionally to the metropolitan area.

Keywords : functional metropolitan area; metropolization; regional and urban policies.
