Abstract

The main aim of this study is to assess teachers' depression symptoms in public schools in Envigado (Colombia) and their association with burnout-syndrome and social and job characteristics. Participants were 194 teachers selected by proportionate stratified random probability sampling. SCL-90-R to evaluate depression symptoms, Maslach Burnout Inventory, and a demographic survey were also used. The results show that 65,8% teachers have depression symptoms and multivariate model identified that burnout syndrome emotional exhaustion component increases the depression symptoms in teachers (OR=4,0, IC=1,67-9,58). The study concluded that the depression is in teachers of high prevalence.
