Abstract
CHARLO MOLINA, MARÍA JOSÉ and NUNEZ TORRADO, MIRIAM. Women managers in large-sized Spanish companies: profile, competence, and leadership styles. estud.gerenc. [online]. 2012, vol.28, n.124, pp.87-105. ISSN 0123-5923.
The lack of female managers in big-sized Spanish companies shows a labor market characterized by strong gender segregation that disregards the candidates' training or merits. The aim of this paper is to provide a description of the profile of Spanish female executives based on ad hoc surveys, focusing on their competences and abilities and relating them to characteristics of successful leadership according to literature. Factorial analysis will be used for processing data. The theoretical framework is based on the theories of diversity management and leadership paradigms. The results will show whether or not there is congruence between gender and organizational roles. A new paradigm will be proposed to minimize the negative effects of potential incongruence.
Keywords : Transactional leadership style; transformational leadership style; meritocracy; female manager.
