Abstract

NOLASCO DOS SANTOS, Paulo Sérgio  and  ALVES, Joyce. COMPARATIVE LITERATURE: PAST AND FUTURE ITINERARIES. Lit. teor. hist. crit. [online]. 2013, vol.15, n.1, pp.17-33. ISSN 0123-5931.

This article seeks to assess the contemporary, and especially the practical, dimension of comparative studies, in particular in the renewal taking place in the area of Comparative Literature. Starting with an analysis of representative texts relating to the foundations of comparative studies, it goes on to compare more recent texts, in search of the ideas and research practices which are still relevant today, both as relates to the teaching and history of the subject and, more especially, for a revitalizing of research and criticism in this field of knowledge. From this perspective, it is clear that today, not only in Brasil but in a global context, Comparative Literature is demonstrating its vigor and productivity, proving the fertility of comparative practices and the central role of the intellectual and cultural subject in the field of human sciences.

Keywords : Comparative Literature; research in literature; comparative studies today; literary criticism; literary theory.
