Abstract

GIRALDO, Efrén. LIVING PICTURES: INTERPRETING THE ARTISTIC IMAGE AS IMMEDIATE REALITY IN THE STORIES OF PEDRO GÓMEZ VALDERRAMA. Lit. teor. hist. crit. [online]. 2013, vol.15, n.1, pp.113-140. ISSN 0123-5931.

The work of Pedro Gómez Valderrama (Bucaramanga, 1923 - Bogotá, 1992) is one of the most outstanding cases of recreation of visual esthetics and of the image in twentieth-century Colombian literature. The article explores the issue of the relations between the arts in this author's works through strategies of intertextuality and extrapolation. Another issue, in addition to the rhetorical problem of the description of the artistic image in literature, is a revision of the topos of art in the author's work, and its evolution throughout his career. This approach is connected to a hypothesis as to the central role of the artwork as a an immediate fact in literary works concerned with the visual.

Keywords : Pedro Gómez Valderrama; relations between the arts; ekphrasis; intertextuality; extrapolation; esthetic reception.
