Abstract

RODRIGUEZ, Adriana Azucena. Poetic Depiction of Saints by Novohispanic Authors. Lit. teor. hist. crit. [online]. 2016, vol.18, n.2, pp.55-73. ISSN 2256-5450.  https://doi.org/10.15446/lthc.v18n2.58728.

In this article I propose an analysis of the feminine lyrical projects of María Estrada de Medinilla and Ana María González y Zúñiga, directly related to religious images, in order to show how some poetic resources operate. The use of poetic resources made it possible, on the one hand, to preserve ut pictura poiesis and, on the other hand, to stimulate and develop the creative interest of the few poetesses of their time. The article highlights the peculiar use of poetic resources based on the Novohispanic idea of the relationship between poetry and painting resulting from detailed observation, a characteristic of the feminine sphere of society at that time.

Keywords : Novohispanic poetesses; poetry; painting; poetic resources; Poetisas novo-hispânicas; poesia; pintura; recursos poéticos.
