Abstract

HERNANDEZ DE LA FUENTE, David. Greek and Spanish Versions of "Kalila and Dimna", with an Example of Fantastic Ornithology. Lit. teor. hist. crit. [online]. 2019, vol.21, n.1, pp.35-60. ISSN 0123-5931.  https://doi.org/10.15446/lthc.v21n1.74874.

The article starts out with a brief, comparative historical-cultural overview of the versions of the story of Kalila and Dimna in Spanish and Greek literature, in order to provide an account of the parallel yet differentiated ways in which the fable enters into European literature. Then, on the basis of the study of those two literary traditions, it proposes a few paths for research in the field of the classical tradition, focusing on a specific example of vocabulary and translation practice having to do with a fantastic bird.

Keywords : Kalila and Dimna; classical tradition; Oriental stories in Spanish literature; Oriental stories in Greek literature.
