Abstract

BAUTISTA ROJAS, Enrique. Reflections on Sexual Diversity in Indigenous Youth in Mexico. rev.estud.soc. [online]. 2018, n.63, pp.100-109. ISSN 0123-885X.  https://doi.org/10.7440/res63.2018.08.

The aim of this research is to analyze the question of sexual diversity in young men in indigenous communities in Mexico. Due to the still controversial nature of this subject, a variety of traditional social and cultural norms make it difficult for the communities they are members of to acknowledge these alternative sexual practices and even mean that homosexuality remains a clandestine practice within them. Our study has made use of a variety of sources, complemented by academic studies of sexual diversity. It hopes to stimulate reflections on the challenges these young men face as they try to construct a different identity in a situation where they are vulnerable to many forms of social and cultural oppression.

Keywords : discrimination; Mexico; ethnicity; homosexuality; rural-urban migration.
