Abstract
PINOCHET COBOS, Carla; PETERS, Tomás and GUZMAN, Victoria. The COVID Crisis in the Chilean Cultural Sector: Collective Action Strategies and Cultural Policies from Below. rev.estud.soc. [online]. 2021, n.78, pp.14-35. Epub Sep 15, 2021. ISSN 0123-885X. https://doi.org/10.7440/res78.2021.02.
The purpose of this article is to map the responses brought forth by Chile’s cultural and artistic sector -one of the most seriously affected by the health restriction policies implemented- to the COVID-19 crisis. Through a qualitative strategy that combines virtual ethnography, press analysis, and in-depth interviews with key informants, we characterize the creative strategies that have enabled a reinvention of the processes of cultural production, distribution, and consumption. We also examine how the sector has mobilized formal and informal associative networks to install a solidarity ethic of common care, and to dispute, within the country’s context of the constitutional change, the status of culture in contemporary Chilean society.
