Abstract

OCHOA ANGRINO, SOLANLLY; ARAGON ESPINOSA, LUCERO  and  CAICEDO TAMAYO, ADRIANA MARÍA. MEMORY AND METAMEMORY IN ELDERLY PEOPLE: STATE OF THE ART. Act.Colom.Psicol. [online]. 2005, vol.8, n.2, pp.19-32. ISSN 0123-9155.

This paper shows a review of studies on memory and metamory in order adults. 47 research reports published between 1995 and 2005 were analyzed and organized in a matrix, which allowed to classify the variables tackled in the studies. For each variable, results show the perpetuation of the negative cultural stereotype about memory impairment associated with aging process and, in a smaller number, research results show a positive stereotype characterized by stability in memory functioning even at an old age. The balance leads to questions about the relevance of the methodology and questionnaires used to assess memory and metamory in such population sample.

Keywords : Memory; metamemory; older adults.
