ARAMBURO-SIEGERT, Clara Inés; MONTOYA-ARANGO, Vladimir; TOBON-GIRALDO, Diana María  and  PORTELA-GARCIA, Juan Camilo. Traditional territories and economic uses in Urabá, Colombia. Productive arrangements in wetland ecosystems. Bitácora Urbano Territorial [online]. 2018, vol.28, n.3, pp.171-180. ISSN 0124-7913.  https://doi.org/10.15446/bitacora.v28n3.60476.

In the region of Urabá, Colombia, intensive practices of banana monoculture and extensive ranching have been undergoing in the wetlands of León River and the Tumaradó Swamp, inhabited by peasants and afro-descendant populations. Supported by a socio-spatial approach and the scale analysis, we describe natural characteristics of the wetland and the water policies that frame population processes, economic and conflictive that configure and transform the wetland. Results show the configuration of simultaneous spatialities that juxtapose economic projections and conservation visions in the wetlands, risking the survival of a vital ecosystem for the region and the world.

Keywords : wetlands; political ecology; territorial organization; scale analysis; Urabá.
