Abstract

With the objective of studying the amphibian fauna in the Cerro Murrucucú (PNN Paramillo, Tierralta, Córdoba), we sampled amphibians in the zone during the months of December of 2004, January and February of 2005 in different localities; using two sampling strategies (visual encounter surveys and pitfall tramps). In first instance, we compare the richness and abundance of the species in three altitudinal zones in one of the best preserved sectors of the mountain. We found that in the lower and middle zones the family Hylidae is the most diverse, whereas in the higher part, the family Brachycephalidae is the most diverse, principally because of species of the genus Eleutherodactylus. We recorded 52 species for the Cerro Murrucucú (belonging to two orders, 10 families and 26 genera), whichg represent 8% of the total of species in Colombia and more than of 80% of the documented species for the Departmento de Córdoba. The most representative families (Brachycephalidae and Hylidae) concentrate a little more 50% of the species. We also obtained 18 first records of species for the Departamento de Córdoba and were able to enlarge the known geographic range of distribution of 18 species and to increase the known altitudinal range of 7 species. We obtained the first record of Eleutherodactylus cruentus for Colombia and the first record of E. vieja for the Cordillera Occidental of Colombia.
