Abstract
SIERRA-ROZO, OMAR; GAVIO, BRIGITTE and MANCERA-PINEDA, JOSÉ ERNESTO. Structure of Thalassia testudinum beds in Old Providence island, Caribbean Colombian, after hurricane Beta. Caldasia [online]. 2012, vol.34, n.1, pp.155-164. ISSN 0366-5232.
On October 29, 2005, the category 1 hurricane Beta passed 15 Km north of the island of Old Providence in the Colombian Caribbean. To determine any changes in the Thalassia testudinum Banks ex König beds, we monitored four beds around the island, one and two years after the hurricane. We selected two sites affected by the hurricane and two not affected by the storm. We observed that the seagrass beds look healthy and show no sign of significant alteration due to the hurricane. The only visible change was that the ecosystems returned to an earlier succession stage in the affected beds.
