Abstract
CARDENAS-ARROYO, Felipe. Analysis of some radiocarbon dates of archaeological mummies from Colombia. Rev. acad. colomb. cienc. exact. fis. nat. [online]. 2021, vol.45, n.174, pp.10-29. Epub Sep 12, 2021. ISSN 0370-3908. https://doi.org/10.18257/raccefyn.1226.
This article presents the results of 23 radiocarbon dates obtained from samples taken from archaeological mummies in Colombia. These were compared to radiocarbon dates obtained through archaeological excavations in stratified ceramic sites in order to contextualize the radiocarbon information from the mummies in altered or sacked sites. This approach helped to relate the antiquity of mummification in Colombia with chronological frameworks established for native indigenous societies that inhabited the Eastern Cordillera between the 4th and 17th centuries of the current era showing that anthropogenic mummification in the country was practiced for more than 1.600 years and was still done during the conquest and early colonial times.
