Abstract

NAVIA GOMEZ, María Almeira. New Finding of a Fishtail Point in the Colombian Caribbean Region. Rev. colomb. antropol. [online]. 2024, vol.60, n.1, pp.175-189.  Epub Jan 01, 2024. ISSN 0486-6525.  https://doi.org/10.22380/2539472x.2481.

This paper presents the technomorphological analysis of a projectile point found by chance in Barrancas, department of La Guajira (Colombia). The importance this finding relies in the lack of technological and verifiable information on lithic artifacts from the Colombian Caribbean region, belonging to bifacial pre-ceramic technology, specifically projectile points. According to the results of the technomorphological analysis of this artifact, it can be affirmed that it is a fishtail point, similar to those found in the territory that extends from southern Mexico to the southernmost South America.

Keywords : Caribbean archaeology; early peopling; hunter-gatherers; lithic technology.
