Abstract

In this article frequently used supervision models and are reviewed as weill as the characteristics they should have to get optimal levels of supervision are checked. Advantages from involving central bank in the supervision process are also reviewed. An empirical exercise is performed for a panel of countries from 1980- to 1997 finding that probability of crises increases in presence of high inflation rates and decreases as there is more banking liberalization. Furthermore, exercises show a supervision power improvement as the central bank performs a supervising roll.
