Using data from the GEIH DANE for the third quarter of 2009, it discusses the job search methods for unemployed in the city of Ibague. It shows the role that these methods play in the match between individuals who want jobs and companies registering vacancies. The job search methods are divided into informal and formal, in the first there is access to inside information while in the latter there is not. The results indicate that informal methods are the most used. It was also found that personal characteristics of job seekers and their educational level and age play a decisive role in selecting the job search methods.
